Effect of the drug loading procedure on the encapsulation efficacy in MCM-41 and further preparation of sustained release drug delivery systems

Abstract

MCM-41 type of mesoporous silica family has been widely investigated as carrier for drug delivery systems due to its number of benefits (biocompatibility, stability, large pore volume, possible functionalization). The present study evaluated the possibility for drug loading of highly water soluble dopaminereceptoragonist pramipexole using different methods, following by achievement of modified drug release by using of polymer coating method. The size, polydispersity index, zeta-potential, surface morphology and drug loading degree of resulted mesostructured drug delivery systems were determined. The results showed big differences in the loading efficacy using different loading methods and possible sustained drug release using polymer coating.
