Abstract. Prodrug approach is very effective and helpful strategy in decreasing the problems related with solubility, absorption, distribution, site specificity, instability, toxicity of drugs. Among various type of prodrugs amide derivatives are most common one. This paper aims to review the existing literature sources on the application of amide prodrugs especially to circumvent some of the difficulties associated with gastrointestinal toxicity of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
